Telegram is the fastest way to talk to your OpenClaw Cloud assistant on the go. No app to install (beyond Telegram itself), no webhooks to configure, no ports to open. You create a bot, paste a token, and you're chatting with your AI from your phone.
The whole thing takes about 2 minutes.
What You'll Need
- An OpenClaw Cloud account (already provisioned and running)
- A Telegram account (free, works on iOS, Android, desktop, and web)
- About 2 minutes
Step 1: Open BotFather on Telegram
Open Telegram and search for @BotFather in the search bar. It's Telegram's official bot for creating bots—look for the verified checkmark. Tap on it and hit Start.
Step 2: Create a New Bot
Type /newbot and send it. BotFather will ask you two questions:
- Display name — This is what people see. Something like "My AI Assistant" or "Cass's Brain" works fine. Can be anything.
- Username — This must end in
bot. For example:cass_openclaw_botormy_assistant_bot. Must be unique across all of Telegram.
Step 3: Copy the Bot Token
After you pick a username, BotFather responds with a message containing your bot token. It looks something like:
7123456789:AAH1bGciFk_something_something
Copy this entire token. You'll paste it into OpenClaw Cloud in the next step.
Keep this token private. Anyone who has your bot token can control your bot. If it ever leaks, go back to BotFather and send /revoke to generate a new one.
Step 4: Paste It Into OpenClaw Cloud
Log in to your OpenClaw Cloud dashboard. Click on the Channels tab in the top navigation. You'll see a section for Telegram.
Paste your bot token into the Telegram Bot Token field and click Save. OpenClaw Cloud will connect to your bot automatically—no webhooks or extra config needed.
That's it. Your bot is now connected. OpenClaw Cloud handles the webhook registration, polling, and connection management behind the scenes.
Step 5: Start Chatting
Go back to Telegram and search for your bot by its username. Start a conversation and send a message—anything works. Your OpenClaw assistant will reply.
That's all there is to it. Your AI assistant is now in your pocket, accessible from any Telegram client—phone, tablet, desktop, or web.
Tips & Extras
Set a Profile Photo
Back in BotFather, send /setuserpic and upload an image for your bot. Makes it easier to spot in your chat list.
Set a Description
Send /setdescription to BotFather to add a description that shows when someone first opens your bot. Something like "My personal AI assistant powered by OpenClaw Cloud."
Use It in a Group
You can add your bot to Telegram groups. It'll respond when mentioned by name or when you reply directly to its messages. Handy for shared team assistants.
Multiple Channels
OpenClaw Cloud supports connecting Telegram alongside other channels (like Discord or webchat) simultaneously. Your assistant's memory and personality stay consistent across all of them.
Troubleshooting
Bot not responding?
- Double-check that you pasted the full token (including the colon and everything after it)
- Make sure your OpenClaw Cloud instance is running (check the Overview tab for a green status)
- Try sending
/startto the bot—this is sometimes needed for first contact
"Unauthorized" error in dashboard?
The token might have been revoked or typed incorrectly. Go back to BotFather, send /token, select your bot, and copy the current token again.
Want to switch bots?
Just paste a different token in the Channels tab. OpenClaw Cloud will disconnect from the old bot and connect to the new one.
